Job Summary
NAES has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Distributed Control System (DCS) Engineer to support power generation facilities in Burlington, IA. The DCS Engineer will be embedded with site teams to provide technical expertise, troubleshooting, and upgrade support for distributed control systems, with a primary focus on Ovation platforms. This role is critical to ensuring reliable operations, extending the life of existing assets, and modernizing controls infrastructure to meet evolving operational and regulatory standards.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support for plant DCS platforms, including troubleshooting, tuning, upgrades, and configuration changes.
- Lead and execute system modifications to improve reliability, safety, and performance of plant operations.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to resolve control-related issues.
- Document system changes, develop procedures, and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Support integration of new equipment into existing DCS platforms.
- Train and mentor plant personnel on DCS functions, optimization, and best practices.
- Advanced knowledge of Ovation DCS (preferred) or comparable platforms (Emerson, Honeywell, Siemens, ABB).
- Demonstrated success troubleshooting and resolving complex control system issues.
- Strong understanding of power plant operations and controls integration.
- Experience leading DCS upgrades, migrations, or modernization projects.
- Familiarity with NERC, OSHA, and other industry standards for control system compliance and safety.
- Ability to walk, reach, climb, stoop, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Work in confined spaces, heights, and extreme temperatures as required in a power plant.
- Must wear and properly use PPE, including arc flash gear, gloves, and safety glasses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience working with Distributed Control Systems in power generation, utilities, or industrial environments.- Specialized training or certifications in control systems preferred.
