Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the administration of the corrosion control program for assigned areas, accountable for related activities including design, installation, operation, and maintenance of all corrosion control facilities with an emphasis on maximum efficiency and safety. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures as mandated by state and federal pipeline safety regulations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Supervises regional corrosion control program to achieve goals within budgeted funds using available personnel; plans projects and designates accountability for assignments, reviews progress, directs changes in priorities and modifies schedules as needed to ensure work is completed in an efficient and timely manner. Participates in the selection/promotion of staff, salary change considerations, and disciplinary matters.
Conducts performance evaluations and resolves grievances. Provides training and motivation to develop technicians to their full potential.
Develop and manage capital and maintenance budgets to assure compliance based on staffing, resource requirements, cost, objectives, and goals.
Designs corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems. Activities may include, review and development of specifications, design / performance calculations, interpretation of graphic and statistical data, power assessment, and evaluation of survey data. Conference with departments responsible for contracts, environmental compliance, and right-of-way procurement.
Prepares project contract drawings, specifications and bid invitations.
Plans, coordinates, and manage projects based on the priority level to maintain compliance.
Consults Technical Service Manager and other corporate support groups on major projects, budget proposals, and priorities.
Prepares and reviews Company's notifications to various agencies, companies, and committees of corrosion protection systems, compliance data and documentation.
Maintains required records, including assembly, compilation, and review of PCS/CPDM data. Reviews as-built drawings, annual survey data, CIS data, and ILI data to determine the best use of resources and corrective actions.
Investigates corrosion problems in the field through survey work and/or research and may coordinate some activities with Corrosion Engineers, Corporate Support Services, and/or vendors when necessary.
Resolves cathodic protection and interference problems including specific measures to be taken and determines specific system adjustments. Implements corrective action through corrosion and maintenance personnel or oversees work of outside contractors.
Consistently maintains and demonstrates a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets, employees, and the public.

Education Position Requirements

Associate degree in Engineering / Electrical Technology, or related field from an accredited school or relevant professional experience that has developed equivalent technical, project management, and corrosion-control/prevention skills.


Experience / Specific Knowledge

Ten years of pipeline corrosion prevention experience is required.
In-depth working knowledge of pipeline operations, project management, risk management concepts, engineering principles, and DOT Part 192 regulations.
Understanding basic cost/benefit analysis, financial forecasting techniques, and budget development.
Design, construction, and troubleshooting of corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems.
Functional knowledge of utility operations and right-of-way.


Certification, Licenses, Registrations

A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid state driver's license are required.

Competency, Skills, And Abilities

Proficiency with computer software including PCS/CPDM, Maximo, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is expected.
Well-balanced people skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.
Ability to develop and coordinate work schedules, focus attention on details; follow and enforce policy and adhere to prescribed work practices is expected.
Strong organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems and implement solutions is essential.

The Successful Candidate Must Demonstrate The Ability To

Effectively manage, train and lead subordinates to ensure department goals and objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Exercise skill in the monitoring, maintenance, and repair of cathodic protection facilities.
Analyze and evaluate operations; develop and implement corrective action to resolve problems.
Plan, organize, and oversee assigned work programs.

Above The Minimum Requirements But Advantageous In This Position

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline or equivalent technical experience.
Corrosion Technician experience with sole responsibility of facilities.
Supervisory and project management experience.


Physical Demands

Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty pounds in awkward positions, and fifty pounds from floor to waist.
Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, carry up to fifty pounds and to see, hear, walk, and speak effectively.


Working Conditions

Position subject to 24-hour call-out, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Climatic conditions are determined by location assignment and may include severe seasonal changes including both winter conditions with frequent snow or extreme summer heat and sun.
May drive a 4-wheeled vehicle several hours per day and be able to navigate pipeline right-of-way without accidents or equipment damage.
Travel to remote areas within a particular region may involve extended periods of driving, both on and off road and extended stays.
Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
