The Commercial Painting Estimator position is responsible for developing detailed cost estimates that can be used to bid on painting projects. This involves proficient reading of blueprints and drawings, analyzing project plans, understanding painting techniques, and considering factors that can impact the cost and complexity of the job. The role also includes interacting with clients, other contractors, and other professionals to gather information and provide information to site personnel and potential customers, and organize bid information for future reference.
Key Responsibilities:
•Preparing Cost Estimates:
•Developing accurate and detailed estimates for material costs (paint, supplies, etc.), labor costs, and other project expenses.
•Analyzing project plans, specifications, and blueprints to identify scope of work.
•Considering factors like surface preparation, wall type, painting techniques, and project complexity.
•Client Interaction and Communication:
•Meeting with clients to discuss project needs and gather information for estimates.
•Developing bids and presenting cost estimates to clients and explaining the scope of work.
•Responding to client questions and concerns.
•Building strong relationships with clients through effective communication and exceptional service.
•Collaboration and Negotiation:
•Working with project managers, engineers, and other professionals to gather information and coordinate bids.
•Negotiating with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and ensuring clarity on scope and timelines.
•Ensuring that project budgets are adhered to.
•Project Management Support:
•Reviewing contracts, ensuring accuracy and scope fluctuation add-backs when appropriate.
•Monitoring project costs throughout the project.
•Conduct site visits to assess project conditions.
•Building and maintaining relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
•Proficiency with standard office and bidding software. (I.e. Microsoft Office products, Building Connected, Procore, etc.)
•Following up on bids and securing new projects.
Skills and Qualifications:
•Strong understanding of painting techniques and building construction.
•Proficiency in estimating painting projects.
•Knowledge of safety practices in construction sites is essential.
•Strong math and analytical skills.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Experience in the painting industry is required.
