Commercial Energy Engineering Analyst – Energy Team
Reports To: VP of Operations / Energy Team Lead
Location: Martinez, CA – Remote to 80% possible once established
The Commercial Energy Engineering Analyst provides technical expertise, system design, and analytical support for commercial solar, battery storage, and distributed energy projects. This role bridges engineering, estimating, project development, and financial modeling. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup-like environment and can balance accuracy with rapid-turnaround deal cycles.
- Perform solar and battery system modeling using Helioscope, Energy Toolbase, PVsyst, and other design tools.
- Develop preliminary system designs including one-lines, layouts, equipment selections, and production models.
- Size and optimize PV and BESS systems for technical and financial performance.
- Evaluate interconnection requirements, site constraints, and overall feasibility.
- Prepare conceptual estimates, bills of materials, and design assumptions to support pricing.
- Contribute technical inputs for proposals, scopes of work, and RFP responses.
- Conduct due diligence, site reviews, and technical assessments for new opportunities.
- Support construction planning, procurement, and project management teams through project lifecycle, from early concept through PTO.
- Produce customer-facing proposals and supporting models with minimal oversight.
- Help refine and standardize Energy Team templates, workflows, and processes.
- Manage multiple deal pipelines while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- 5–9 years of experience in commercial solar, battery storage, or distributed energy engineering, presale engineering.
- Proficiency with Helioscope, Energy Toolbase, AutoCAD, PVsyst, and other PV system design tools.
- Strong understanding of NEC, utility interconnection processes, and AHJ requirements.
- Experience preparing estimates, production models, and pricing packages.
- Ability to prepare or interpret one-lines, site plans, and layout drawings.
- Strong analytical skills with familiarity in financial modeling (ROI, NPV, utility rates).
- Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Self-directed and comfortable adapting to shifting priorities.
- Team-oriented mindset and willingness to jump into varied tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or related field.
