The Chief Foundry Engineer drives foundry throughput, efficiency, and quality through continuous improvements. Responsible for managing the pattern shop and foundry engineer. Provides technical recommendations to the foundry department managers and upper management.
Primary Accountabilities:
•Thorough technical analysis and foundry experience, drives foundry throughput by improving molding, melting, and finishing processes.
•Reviews scrap reports to identify root cause and drive scrap and rework reductions.
•Works closely with the Molding Manager and team to improve casting quality leading to more efficient finishing. Instructs molding and melting teams in processes to improve casting quality.
•Generally, supports continuous improvement and the_ Lean strategy_.
•Drives foundry efficiency through reduced usage of foundry consumables (chemicals, sleeves, etc.)
•Identifies critical points in the foundry process that leads to potentially poor castings or overall quality.
•Drives pattern design to improve foundry efficiency and reduce finishing requirements.
•Manages the pattern shop and foundry engineers.
•Reviews with department Managers and helps update standard work procedures.
•Supports all departments both in and outside the foundry with technical issues.
•Drives development of new products.
•Confers with marketing and sales departments to define client requirements and expectations and supports sales with client meetings.
•Reviews production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to help manage the efficient flow of production through the foundry.
•Applies statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
•Makes recommendations regarding improvements to equipment and facilities.
•Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
•Minimum 5 years’ iron and/or steel foundry engineering experience.
•Experience with pattern design including gating, risering, and solidification.
•BS in engineering or similar education background
•Strong technical and metric based problem-solving skills.
•Detailed knowledge of Lean Manufacturing a plus.
Pay Range:
•$95K - $120K per year, plus Profit Sharing!!!
