About The Role

U.S. Pipe is seeking a Chemical Analyst II to conduct spectrochemical and carbon/sulfur analysis in a timely fashion on ductile iron samples received from the Melting, Large Diameter Departments and Marvel City Mini Mill operations.


Specific Responsibilities

Immediately reports results of sample analysis to various departments.
Promptly alerts appropriate personnel when iron sample results are not within specifications.
Promptly alerts Melting Department when samples are late.
Ensures that spectrometer and carbon/sulfur determiner are verified daily and instrument readings are accurate.
Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of chemical laboratory equipment.
Records chemical analysis results and maintains daily records of results.
Advises Senior Chemical Analyst of any problems encountered and alerts maintenance personnel and Senior Chemical Analyst regarding any breakdowns or delays in operations.
Regularly maintains inventory of materials required for chemical laboratory operations and ensures that an adequate supply of the materials is maintained.
Conducts and reports spectrochemical and carbon/sulfur analysis on raw material metallics and pipe product samples as directed by management.
Maintain large calibration database and gage/instrument certifications. Schedule and oversee regular calibrations and calibrations checks on all inspection, measuring, and testing gages/instruments.
Prepares reports as directed by management.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Must be able to learn chemical names, symbols, and their relationship to the production of quality ductile iron pipe.
Must be able to operate and maintain a spectrometer and similar testing equipment.
Must be able to operate computers and other computerized equipment.
Must be able to effectively use software including Microsoft Windows 7, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Gage Track.
Must be able to learn and use other/new software as needed.
Must be able to consistently maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
Consistent attention to detail.
Willingness to troubleshoot problems as they occur.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

The employee will be working in laboratory/office environment but will also be required to do some walking throughout the plant from time to time. This will expose the employee to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Loud Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
The employee will be required to perform the following actions: Standing, Walking, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Lifting, Seeing, Hearing, Talking, Hammering, and Sitting.
