Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to ensure the quality and integrity of welds in our well-established manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the welding operations in our fabrication shop to ensure that all welds meet required standards and specifications. They will perform inspections, conduct tests, and review documentation to maintain high-quality standards and compliance with industry regulations.
CWI Responsibilities:
•Conduct visual inspections of welds to assess quality and compliance with specifications.
•Perform, or be knowledgeable in, non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, such as ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT), as required.
•Evaluate welding procedures and ensure they adhere to industry standards and client specifications.
•Review welding procedures, specifications, and documentation to ensure compliance with standards such as AWS, ASME, or ISO.
•Monitor welding processes to ensure adherence to established procedures and quality standards.
•Identify and address any welding defects or non-conformance issues and recommend corrective actions.
•Documentation and Reporting
•Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and repairs.
•Prepare detailed reports on inspection results, including any deviations from standards and recommended corrective measures.
•Ensure all documentation is complete and accessible for review by regulatory bodies or clients.
•Collaboration and Communication
•Work closely with welders, engineers, and other team members to address quality issues and improve welding practices.
•Provide guidance and training to welders on quality standards and best practices.
•Communicate effectively with supervisors and management regarding inspection findings and quality concerns.
•Ensure all welding operations are performed in accordance with safety regulations and industry standards.
•Promote a culture of safety within the fabrication shop and adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
•Stay updated with the latest welding technologies, standards, and best practices.
•Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certification and enhance skills.
CWI Requirements:
•Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) or equivalent recognized certification.
•Proven experience as a welding inspector or in a similar role within a fabrication shop.
•In-depth understanding of welding techniques, materials, and industry standards (e.g., AWS, ASME).
•Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Able to write WPS’s, PQR’s, etc.
•Knowledge of both commercial and defense weld standards/codes (e.g., AWS, TACOM/MIL-STD-3040, TEQA, NAVSEA, etc.)
•Background using MRP/ERP software and other office applications
•Familiarity with welding equipment, NDT techniques, and quality control tools.
•Able to perform inspections in various conditions, including confined spaces and at heights.
•Capable of lifting and moving materials and equipment as required.
•The role may involve working in a noisy, hot, or hazardous environment, requiring appropriate safety gear and adherence to safety protocols.
•Capable of standing for long periods of time
•Able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
•Able to walk, stand, see, talk, hear, touch, feel and reach with hands and arms
•Able to lift and move up to 40lbs.
•Able to pass criminal background check
•Able to pass drug screening
•Able to pass an employee reference check
