Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Shipyard Buyer to join our procurement team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials and supplies necessary for our operations. This role requires a strong understanding of marine repair - supply chain management and materials management, along with the ability to analyze market trends and vendor performance. The Buyer will play a crucial role in ensuring that our organization maintains optimal inventory levels while minimizing costs.
Duties
•Conduct thorough market research to identify potential suppliers and evaluate their offerings.
•Negotiate contracts and terms with vendors to secure the best pricing and quality.
•Manage the procurement process from requisition through delivery, ensuring timely fulfillment of orders.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand material requirements and specifications.
•Implement category management strategies to optimize purchasing decisions.
•Utilize Quick Base systems for tracking orders, inventory levels, and supplier performance.
•Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier agreements for audit purposes.
•Monitor market trends and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly to mitigate risks.
Requirements
•Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred but not required.
•Proven experience in procurement or purchasing roles with a strong understanding of supply chain processes.
•Proficiency in QuickBase or QuickBooks systems is highly desirable.
•Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships with suppliers.
•Knowledge of materials management principles and practices.
•Familiarity with contract management and compliance requirements.
•Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis on procurement challenges.
•Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
•Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
