Job Summary:
The Buyer reports to the Purchasing Manage and is responsible for identifying and procuring the goods and services that the organization requires. The Buyer finds services providers who can supply goods and services, negotiates the prices and arranges for the purchase and delivery of the goods.
Key Responsibilities:
•Purchasing Execution: Process purchasing orders for raw materials, supplies, and equipment required for steel mill operations. Ensure orders comply with specified requirements, including quality, quantity, and delivery timelines.
•Supplier Management: Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable supply and timely delivery of goods. Address and resolve any issues related to order discrepancies, delivery delays, or quality concerns.
•Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock is maintained, avoiding overstocking or stockouts. Work closely with operations and supply chain teams to assess material needs and forecast future requirements.
•Cost Efficiency: Actively engage in negotiations with suppliers to secure cost-effective deals and explore value-add alternatives that align with operational capabilities. Collaborate closely with internal business units to ensure purchasing decisions support and enhance overall production efficiency and product quality.
•Documentation and Compliance: Ensure all purchasing activities are well documented and comply with company policies and industry regulations. Maintain accurate records of purchases, receipts, invoices, and supplier contracts.
•Miscellaneous Items: Perform any other purchasing-related duties as may be required on an as-requested basis by the Procurement Manager
Skills & Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
•Proven experience as a buyer or in a similar role, preferably in the manufacturing or steel industry.
•Strong negotiation and communication skills.
•Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels.
•Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
•Ability to work with others as part of a team.
•Understanding the steel industry’s supply chain and requirements is an advantage.
Working Conditions:
•This role may require occasional travel to meet with suppliers, key internal individuals at all plants.
•Office-based with regular hours with occasional requirements to adjust schedules based on operational needs or urgent purchasing requirements.
