Overview: The Boiler Technician will be responsible for ensuring the optimum performance of the Boiler systems on Company client sites. Responsibilities:
•Able to trouble shoot, fire, and set combustion on all types of boilers.
•Assist with performing upgrades to existing boiler controls to meet contract specifications.
•Tends to or fires one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water.
•Maintains log in which various aspects of boiler maintenance and operation are recorded.
•Wire all controls and motors for water tube and fire tube boilers and auxiliary equipment.
•Performing routine service and preventative maintenance contract work at sites.
•Prepare boilers for annual internal inspections by certified National Board inspectors.
•Cleans, oils, make repairs or assists in the repair to boiler room equipment.
•Follows prescribed methods to treat boiler water with chemicals.
•Determine valve trim, regulator size and spring, oil gun length and size, and all other parts and accessories needed to fire any boiler.
•Prepare deaerators for their six-year internal NDE inspections.
•Adjusts controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operation and to meet demands for steam or high-temperature water.
•Assist with performing upgrades to achieve increased burner reliability, perform conversions to achieve higher fuel efficiency, perform gas train upgrades to meet NFPA Code Requirements, perform boiler refractory repairs, and perform boiler / burner Safety Device Testing.
•Understand and make repairs to Steam, Condensate, Fuel and Water Piping.
•Follows procedures, regulations and guidelines while minimizing errors and safety risks.
•Observes and interprets readings and gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation.
•Follows prescribed methods to analyze boiler water for acidity, causticity and alkalinity.
•Locates, picks up, and delivers parts required for department needs.
•Ensure duties and company projects are accomplished in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
•Support other technicians and management with internal and external projects.
•Asses the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
•Respond to emergency calls after normal work hours.
Qualifications:
•Must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years as a Boiler Technician
•Possess extensive knowledge of boiler controls
•Understand and read a manometer, electronic or Slack Tube.
•Understand steam traps and steam systems
•Know the difference in Domestic hot water vs Hydronic hot water, Steam and Hot Oil
•Must be able to operate a combustion analysis unit
•Familiarity with condensate tanks and deaerators
•Have knowledge of PLC s, transformers, transmitters, and other controls
•Electra-Mechanical Troubleshooting Experience Required
•Mechanical and electrical background is a must
•Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind
•Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles
•Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
•Kneeling for long periods
•Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
•Medium work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 50 pounds
•0-5% of the time will be spent traveling to the job site(s)/office locations.
