Title: Boiler Engineer

Key Project Requirements:
•A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field required.
•Significant hands-on experience with GE steam boiler systems, particularly in performing complex component replacements, such as boiler header projects.
•Experience managing large-scale boiler replacements during scheduled plant outages, including coordinating with maintenance, contractors, and operations teams.
•Strong knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section I, B31.1, and other relevant standards to ensure compliance during engineering, procurement, and installation phases.
Job Summary:
PIC Group is seeking a degreed Mechanical Engineer or experienced Boiler Engineer with extensive hands-on expertise in utility-scale boiler systems, specifically GE steam boilers, within the power generation industry. This role focuses on the planning, coordination, and execution of a critical boiler header replacement project for a gas fired power project located in Texas. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of high-pressure steam systems, proven project leadership in outage environments, and the ability to communicate effectively with operations, maintenance, and contractor teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Lead all phases of the GE steam boiler header replacement project, from planning through execution and closeout.
•Conduct field assessments of existing boiler header systems to determine scope, constraints, and required resources.
•Develop and review engineering drawings, material specifications, and installation procedures to ensure compliance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code and plant standards.
•Coordinate with outage planners, welders, pipefitters, and QA/QC personnel to ensure proper sequencing, safety, and efficiency.
•Oversee procurement of materials and ensure compatibility with existing GE steam boiler systems.
•Monitor project progress, manage technical issues, and troubleshoot engineering challenges during execution.
•Provide technical guidance and supervision to contractors and internal teams during critical phases of the project.
•Perform or oversee hydrostatic testing, weld inspections, and system commissioning to validate installation quality and performance.
•Maintain accurate documentation, including as-built drawings, inspection reports, and turnover packages.
Job Requirements:
•Strong knowledge of GE steam boiler systems and power plant boiler headers.
•In-depth understanding of ASME Section I and B31.1 code requirements.
•Experience managing boiler component replacements during plant outages.
•Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
•Familiarity with NDE techniques, weld procedures, and QA/QC practices.
•Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure environments.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software such as MS Project or Primavera.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to work in high-heat, confined-space, and elevated environments, including climbing ladders and scaffolds.
•Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and fall protection equipment.
•Willingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, during scheduled outages.
Education / Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field (required).
•Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
•8+ years of relevant engineering experience in the power generation sector.
•3+ years of hands-on experience specifically with boiler header projects or pressure part replacements in utility-scale steam plants.
•Direct experience with GE steam boiler systems is strongly preferred.
