Boiler Operator

Summary: The purpose of this position is the overall operation the boiler house to maximize the reliability and efficiency of the steam generating systems. The responsibilities include operating the boiler house in compliance with safe operating procedures and environmental conditions. The operator is required to work a 12hrs shift on a rotating basis with the other operators.

Job Description:

With safety of yourself and all those around you as the highest priority, the Boiler Operator is expected operate and monitor the boiler house operations in conjunction with other plant staff. The boiler house is located adjacent to the cogeneration plant and consists of three 80kpph boilers and one 60kpph boiler. The cogeneration plant is a 25mw combined cycle facility utilizing an LM2500 gas turbine, 6.5mw steam turbine, high pressure HRSG, and high voltage switchgear.

· Monitor boiler plant equipment to ensure proper operation and identify developing trends.

· Bring boilers on-line and off-line in a safe, proficient and environmental manner.

· Ensure work orders are written on faulty or unsafe equipment.

· Understand and perform boiler water chemistry testing.

· Receive Fuel/ Acid shipments and record safety information.

· Perform safety and environmental inspections.

· Assist the maintenance department as needed.

· Monitor and maintain operating levels in equipment.

· Perform additional tasks are required.

Requirements:

Education

· High School graduate or equivalent

· Must possess a State of New Jersey Boiler Operator License (Black Seal or Blue Seal).

Experience

· Valid driver’s license

· Minimum of two-four (2-4) years’ experience and/or training equivalent combination of education and experience in a Biomass facility or similar industrial environment.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to perform manual tasks including but not limited to operation of hand and power tools;

· Ability to lift at least 80 lbs.;

· Ability to bend and maneuver in tight, cramped quarters;

· Ability to work in hot, noisy and dark environments;

· Ability to work at heights;

· Ability to work with and wear respiratory protection;

· Ability to reach with hands and arms above shoulder level and at shoulder level;

· Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time;

· Able to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools and machine parts;

· Ability to communicate clearly with plant personnel, including the ability to give and receive instructions over a radio;

· Ability to see clearly; safely and readily identifying the labels, gauges, dials and indicators typically encountered in performing job duties;

· Ability to read, write and understand instructions and procedures in English;

· Ability to work outside of a normal shift rotation during call-outs or planned maintenance outages.
