Boiler Operator I – Heat Treatment

Position Summary: Senior level boiler operator responsible for the operation, minor repairs and maintenance of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment used in the biosolids treatment process. All boiler operators must follow N.J.A.C. 12:90 and any other boiler codes and/or regulations pertaining to boiler operation and boiler related equipment.

Requirements: Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions to perform the duties of this position. Must be knowledgeable of boilers and various pieces of equipment used in such processes. Must have knowledge of the proper procedures used in operating, maintaining, adjusting and regulating pumps, valves and other mechanical equipment. Must be knowledgeable in the occupational hazards and the safety precautions to be exercised in the treatment plant. Must be available for emergencies and/or job assignments on a 24-hour basis.

License and/or Certifications: A minimum of a New Jersey Blue Seal Boiler License with the ability to obtain a New Jersey Red Seal Boiler License after an appropriate training period is required. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver's License.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the use of high-pressure boilers.

Education: High School Diploma, Vocational School Diploma or equivalency certificate.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself or others is maintained. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs, and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping and handling heavy objects. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), in compliance with PVSC’s Facial Hair Grooming Policy.

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions of a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.
