Operate and monitor auxiliary plant systems, air quality control equipment, and ash systems to provide safe and efficient plant operation. Operate and maintain DryFine™ equipment and related systems to support load demand, generation requirements and environmental compliance. Assist with emergent and routine operation and minor maintenance assignments on shift.
Operate and monitor assigned equipment in normal and abnormal situations to ensure proper, safe, and efficient operation. Communicate equipment conditions and corrections to the control room operator.
- Respond to events, make decisions, and direct others during routine and emergency conditions to minimize health and safety risks and damage to equipment.
- Assist others in the plant in emergency/upset situations.
- Cleans assigned equipment to provide safe working conditions and optimize equipment efficiency.
Communicate information about plant operation, equipment problems or malfunctions and other abnormalities to members of the operating shift.
- Write detailed work orders for equipment repair as required.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of operating conditions.
- Document routine and abnormal equipment operating occurrences, conditions, or other events as well as any other information required for trouble shooting, equipment history, or demonstrating compliance with regulations.
Cleans assigned equipment to provide safe working conditions and optimize equipment efficiency.
- Monitor DryFine areas and equipment for dust buildup to maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform routine cleaning, safely operate inhouse vacuum systems and vacuum truck.
Understand and follow REC’s safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Applies correct procedures for isolating, switching, releasing, or restoring equipment to service to facilitate repairs, reduce risk of personal injury, and prevent damage to equipment.
- Respond to incipient stage fires.
- Respond to hazmat conditions.
- Report all unsafe acts or conditions that may cause injury to plant personnel or damage equipment.
- Report all noncompliance and work to support all aspects of Coal Creek’s environmental program goals.
- Monitor site specific drainage and ponds to determine that we meet environmental standards and minimize costs associated with the operation of waste-water storage.
Assists in providing maintenance to plant equipment within the scope of individual abilities.
- Perform routine minor maintenance, including assigned Lube PM.
- Assist operation and maintenance personnel while learning to complete maintenance tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience: An associate’s in applied science degree in power plant technology or power process training, or equivalent experience is required. Three years of experience in operation and maintenance of coal processing systems and/or equivalent experience in a generating plant or heavy industrial facility required. Work experience in power plant operation or maintenance is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be familiar with conveyor systems, dust collectors, and feeders along with understanding of industrial plant systems and safety, typically acquired from a certificate or completion in power, process or maintenance or preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of plant design, control principles, interlocks, permissive, and operating parameters of assigned systems and their relationship to safe operation of a power station.
- Knowledge and general understanding of confined space and tagging clearance procedures.
- Knowledge of the physical location and operating procedures of assigned plant equipment.
- Basic skills in personal computers.
- Skills and ability to read and understand P&ID’s, procedure manuals, and other reference materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and written.
- Ability to think clearly and act quickly in times of emergency.
- Ability to detect equipment status changes on LCD panels.
- Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Required to complete Assistant Control Operator qualifications within three (3) years of hire date.
- Ability and responsibility to work safely alone and with others while following REC safety rules, certifications, and procedures.
- Ability and responsibility to ensure security procedures are followed including immediate notification of potential incidents.

Working conditions will be indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions of extreme cold or heat. Must be able to travel to various locations throughout the plant and facility grounds. Conditions in the plant and facility grounds may include extreme temperatures, noise levels, and heights. There will be overtime, and/or working weekends and infrequent overnight travel.
This position requires the ability to occasionally to frequently sit, stand, walk, and lift, up to 20-50 pounds frequently and bilateral carry up to 100 pounds on rare occasion. The ability to climb, balance, work at heights and work with arms above your head occasionally up to frequently. Ability to occasionally up to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist and squat, work on even and uneven surfaces and ability to work occasionally in confined space areas. Ability to frequently push, pull, carry, grasp and finger objects. Subject to frequent vibration and hazards and on occasion exposed to fumes, dust, or mist. Must wear protective equipment when required. Must be able to differentiate colors, have vision ability to encompass close-up and distant work, and the ability to speak and hear. Must be able to wear/use SCBA, full face respirator, half mask, and a particulate respirator.
This position requires working a rotating swing shift. Schedules shall be any combination of eight, ten or twelve hour shifts and includes days, afternoons, nights weekends and holidays.
