Auto and Truck Mechanic

Clark County REMC is currently seeking a full-time Auto and Truck Mechanic to join our team. This position involves skilled mechanical work focused on the maintenance and repair of equipment, including trucks, automobiles, construction and maintenance equipment, and various types of engines and generators. This job classification requires diligent adherence to and satisfactory performance of the Power Mechanic Development Plan.

- Maintain all vehicles and equipment in good running order through periodic and regular maintenance.

- Perform maintenance and mechanical repairs, including oil changes, tune ups, and visual checks of tires, transmissions, and hydraulics as needed or at regular intervals.

- Perform repairs outside of the shop and/or after hours as needed.

- Coordinate and communicate with outside contractors engaged by the Cooperative to ensure maintenance and repair work is completed according to specifications, on-time, and on-budget.

- Deliver and pick up trucks and vehicles or equipment parts for outside repairs as needed.

- Initiate requisitions with the parts and service suppliers for parts needed, with the approval of the Purchasing and Facilities Manager.

- Maintain the parts stock room, and truck and equipment part bins in a neat and safe condition.

- Maintain the garage, ensuring it is kept in a neat, orderly, and safe condition.

- Complete required paperwork to track services and repairs, keep accounting informed of part inventory, and ensure maintenance reports on all vehicles are up-to-date.

- Track own work to ensure time is properly charged to the correct accounts.

Required Qualifications And Development

This job classification requires diligent adherence and satisfactory performance of the Power Mechanic Development Plan. Employees hired into any level other than the Master Level shall complete the training and certification requirements applicable to that level within twelve (12) months of the date of hire or promotion to that level.

- High school diploma with some mechanical secondary education, plus a minimum of five years mechanic experience; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.

- Must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License, Class A (CDL). The CDL must be obtained within three (3) months of the employee’s start date and maintained throughout all levels as a condition of employment.

- State certification for truck inspections.

- Must obtain ASE Automotive and Light Truck Certification.

- Must obtain ASE Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist Certification.

- Must obtain Certified DOT Inspector status.

Progressing through the Development Plan (Year 2, 3, 4, Master):

Employees are expected to complete specific training and certification requirements upon accumulating at least 2,000 work hours at the preceding level. This required progression involves completing courses and certifications, including (but not limited to):

- Altec Training: Altec Small Aerial Training, Altec Large Aerial Training, Altec Digger Derrick School 1, Altec Digger Derrick School 2, Altec Virtual Training, Altec Interactive Webinars, and Altec Maintenance eCourses.

- ASE Certifications: ASE Truck Equipment Certification, ASE Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification, ASE Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification, and ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certification, and ASE Undercar Specialist Exhaust Systems.

- Advancement to Power Master Mechanic occurs after the completion of all required training, written certification of all Automotive Service Excellence and Altec Service Trainings (or equivalent), and 2,000 work hours at each level.
