Position Specific Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated Associate Data Scientist to join our dynamic actuarial team in a fast-growing P&C insurance company. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with experienced data scientists and actuaries, providing crucial data management, reporting, and analysis support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in programming, data and information systems, mathematics and statistics, and excellent organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail.



The ideal candidate will be expected to:

Develop, manage, and execute cyclical report templates, ensuring timely and accurate data delivery
Implement and monitor data quality validation rules, collaborating with the operations team to resolve issues and keeping the actuarial team informed
Create and regularly update stochastic loss models as new data becomes available
Collaborate with the actuarial team to develop and enhance datasets and views for improved pricing and reserving efforts
Contribute to the development of interactive data visualizations and dashboards

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science or Mathematical Sciences related field
Strong foundation in mathematical and statistical concepts
Proficiency in Python programming for statistical analysis, data visualization, and task automation
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Solid understanding of SQL and experience in querying databases
Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment


Preferred Qualifications:

Understanding of insurance industry concepts and terminology
Experience with probabilistic programming (e.g., PyMC, Stan, Pyro) and Bayesian analysis
Familiarity with business intelligence tools, particularly Power BI and DAX measures
Knowledge of machine learning concepts and their applications in data analysis
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (i.e., “Big Data”).


Job Duties & Responsibilities

Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutions

Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
Works with big data and distributed computing platforms
Develops software and contributes to product development
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
