Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to support our estimating team in preparing competitive bids for complex civil construction projects. This role is ideal for individuals with some field or estimating experience who are eager to grow their careers in a collaborative, high-impact environment.
Responsibilities
•Assist in quantity takeoffs for earthwork, site utilities, shoreline stabilization, dredging, dam removal, and rock work.
•Solicit, receive, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
•Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and addenda to ensure complete understanding of project scope.
•Help develop detailed cost estimates using estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Excel).
•Support proposal and bid package preparation, including narratives, schedules, and compliance documentation.
•Participate in site visits and pre-bid meetings as needed.
•Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and superintendents to align estimating assumptions with field realities.
Qualifications
•1–3 years of experience in construction estimating, project engineering, or a related field (internships or field experience welcome).
•Familiarity with civil construction plans and specifications.
•Proficiency in Excel; experience with takeoff software or HCSS/HeavyBid a plus.
•Strong math and analytical skills; attention to detail.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Eagerness to learn and contribute in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred
•Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
•Experience with projects involving environmental restoration, marine work, or dam removal.
