We are seeking an experienced Assembly & Maintenance Shop Manager
to lead and oversee all operations within our heavy oilfield equipment assembly and repair facility. This role is responsible for directing daily shop activities, managing workforce and resources, ensuring safety compliance, and delivering high-quality builds and repairs on schedule.
- Direct, mentor, and supervise mechanics, welders, assemblers, electricians, and technicians.
- Plan and assign work to align with assembly schedules and maintenance/repair demands.
- Conduct regular safety and performance meetings.
- Oversee assembly of new equipment units (e.g., pumps, blenders, compressors, frac units).
- Manage teardown, repair, and rebuild of engines, hydraulics, and related systems.
- Ensure work is performed to company, customer, and industry standards.
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Enforce strict adherence to OSHA, API, and company safety standards.
- Lead toolbox talks, JSAs, and safety audits.
- Promote a zero-incident safety culture.
- Develop production and maintenance schedules, ensuring timely project completion.
- Coordinate with procurement for parts, tools, and materials.
- Monitor shop KPIs (throughput, downtime, cost, quality).
- Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements.
- Support Lean/Six Sigma initiatives for workflow optimization.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring equipment issues.
- Manage shop budget, labor hours, and resource allocation.
- Control costs by balancing repair vs. replacement decisions.
- Provide reporting on productivity, expenses, and shop performance.
- Minimum
7–10 years
experience in heavy equipment assembly/maintenance (oilfield equipment preferred).
- Minimum
3–5 years
in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of
diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and fabrication
.
- Proven ability to lead and develop multi-skilled teams.
- Solid understanding of
safety standards and compliance
in heavy industrial environments.
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software (CMMS) a plus.
- Previous experience with
Cummins, Caterpillar, MTU and hydraulic fracturing equipment
.
- Certification or training in
Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma
.
- Hands-on mechanical background and willing to show and train others as well as do the work when needed ..
