About the Role
The Assay Lab Technician is responsible for preparing, processing, and analyzing mineral and metal samples to determine their composition and value. This role involves conducting fire assays, wet chemistry tests, and other analytical procedures while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency. The Assay Lab Technician ensures that all test results comply with laboratory protocols and industry regulations, contributing to the quality control and operational success of mining and mineral exploration activities.
This position works 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, fly in & out.
Responsibilities
•Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to both the mine site and assay laboratory.
•Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory permit requirements for laboratory operations.
•Actively participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks, fostering a culture of workplace safety.
•Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards, taking a proactive approach to risk management.
•Maintain a thorough understanding of standard reference materials and their importance in ensuring analytical accuracy.
•Uphold ISO certification standards by adhering to international quality management systems and best laboratory practices.
•Accurately record data related to sample preparation, analysis, equipment operation, and routine maintenance.
•Process samples efficiently according to established testing protocols.
•Conduct fire assay techniques to determine metal content, including gold and silver analysis.
•Perform wet chemistry assays, such as acid digestion, for sample composition analysis.
•Handle and prepare reagents, samples, and reference standards in line with laboratory procedures.
•Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functionality and routine servicing.
•Collaborate with exploration and operations teams to prioritize sample testing and meet project deadlines.
•Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required
•A diploma or degree in a relevant scientific field, such as chemistry or geology.
•Experience in atomic absorption considered a strong asset.
•Work experience in construction, commissioning and/or mining is an asset.
•Experience in laboratory settings, particularly in wet assaying and/or fire assaying.
•Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standardized procedures accurately.
•Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., WorkSafe BC guidelines, Mines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation) is desired.
•Valid Class 5 BC driver's license or equivalent.
•A combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.

Pay Range and Compensation Package
•$85,000 - $100,000 per annum
•Extended Medical Health/Dental/Vision 100% employer contributed
