The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking an Assay Sample Preparation Technician at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour, Day shift.

Position Sample Preparation Technician Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Sample preparation laboratory technician is accountable for performing routine sorting, transferring, drying, crushing, pulverizing and screening of geological materials in accordance with instructions and quality laboratory guidelines and procedures, analysis, data assessment and reporting in a safe, efficient manner. You will work closely with the team to guarantee sample quality and provide accurate data to control quality and optimize mining operations .

Responsibilities

- Practice Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality culture in the Quality Department by participating in safety meetings and upholding company policies and procedures,

- Follows all Company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs),

- Perform pre- analytical procedures such as sample preparation (sorting, transferring, drying, crushing, pulverizing and screening of geological and Mill materials), as per company Standard Operating Procedures,

- Perform routine and non-routine analysis of samples to determine mineral properties,

- Maintain accuracy and calibration of laboratory testing equipment,

- Perform routine inspections on laboratory equipment and carry out preventive maintenance as required,

- Ensure that equipment is maintained in good order, informing the Supervisor or crew leader of any damaged or defective equipment or any equipment requiring adjustment i.e. pulverizing time or crushers gapping,

- Maintain good record keeping of lab results, calibrations and preventive maintenance,

- Identify and record any abnormal observations in the process, reporting them to the supervisor,

- Ensure work order documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner,

- Input data using relevant computer software programs,

- Perform other duties as required .

Education & Experience

- Post secondary education with Technical Diploma,

- Previous laboratory experience is preferred,

- Strong analytical and mechanical skills,

- Intermediate computer skills with MS office and LIMS,

- Ability to handle multiple tasks within a fast-paced work environment,

- Hand-eye coordination and attention to detail,

- Mature work ethic, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment,

- Ability to lift 25+ pounds on a consistent basis .

- Positive can-do attitude with a willingness to learn new skills, A willingness to learn new analytical tests, instrumentation and procedures,

- Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills,

- Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multitasking, use of timelines and time management techniques,

- Ability to work across multiple disciplines,

- Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision,

- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing,

- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,

- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements .

Working Conditions

- Work requires the employee to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing work,

- Environment is susceptible to the weather as a combination of lab and fieldwork is required,

- Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise, vibration, chemicals and working in dusty and hot environments,

- Work requires the employee to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on uneven work surfaces and work on elevated platforms,

- Role may require the employee to work a non-standard schedule which may include shift work (other than day shift) in a 24/7/365 operation,

- Work will require to be clean-shaven .

Salary Range

$36.77/ hour
