About the Role:
The Pension Investments Analyst will play a key role in the Finance operations of the Canadian Utilities and ATCO Structures & Logistics defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join an engaging and impactful team, while playing a pivotal role in the development and implementation of pension investment strategies and pension fund operations, spanning multiple asset classes and geographies. Additionally, this role offers the opportunity to gain experience working alongside multiple external investment professionals, while also having the opportunity to engage with various teams and leaders from across the organization.
What You Get to Do:
•Pension Investment Oversight
+ Assist with ongoing pension investment and portfolio strategy related research
+ Prepare daily economic funded status reporting for DB Plans
+ Prepare monthly investment performance reporting for DB and DC Plans
+ Co-ordinating re-balancing trades
•External Relationship Management
+ Maintain master contact list for pension service providers and investment managers
+ Maintain productive working relationships with relevant service providers
+ Coordinate meetings and pension investment team schedule
•Retirement Programs Support
+ Supports the ongoing retirement program related initiatives for the pension plans
+ Assists with compiling financial education materials
+ Assists in addressing questions regarding different elements of the Plans’ investment mandates
+ Provides support to human resource-related pension matters
+ Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate levels of cross-training and contingency planning are maintained
+ Perform monthly cash management functions to ensure appropriate cash balances are maintained
+ Manage Plan expenses to ensure timely payment, reporting and record keeping.
+ Coordinate transactions on the Northern Trust Platform
+ Review monthly & quarterly asset manager reports, prepare summaries and manage record keeping
+ Coordinate monthly custody statement production, review for accuracy and manage record keeping
+ Manage the compiling of materials for the Management and Board Pension Committee meetings
+ Prepare documentation required for financial reporting and financial statements
+ Support the annual audit process
+ Prepare and maintain desk manuals and document operational procedures
+ Complete quarterly and annual investment management surveys
What You Bring:
•Three to five years of relevant experience (i.e. defined benefit plan operations, institutional investing, treasury operations, risk management, etc.)
•Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or other closely related field
•General knowledge, aptitude and interest in investing and capital markets
•Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
•Experience with cash management/treasury
•Experience with preparing and maintaining financial reports
•Experience with accounting, financial record keeping and audit support
•Strong organizational skills and experience with record keeping
•Dedicated team player, who demonstrates a high degree of initiative, independence, and personal accountability
•Excellent understanding of Microsoft Office and high proficiency in excel, word, and PowerPoint
Nice To Have:
•Experience in pension investment strategy, reporting, accounting, and performance analysis
•Experience using Bloomberg
•CFA, FRM, CTP or accounting designation completed or in-progress
