POSITION SUMMARY:
ATCO EnPower is supporting the energy transition by pursuing opportunities for growth throughout the generation, energy storage and cleaner fuels sectors. We are focused on identifying and delivering non-regulated energy solutions that support a clean, reliable, and affordable energy future. We are seeking an individual that is passionate and excited about the energy transition to join our team as an Analyst, Corporate Development. This position could also be for a Senior Analyst depending on the experience and skills.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Development the Analyst will support the execution and development of ATCO EnPower’s strategies in North America. Key functions include:
•Economic analysis through financial modelling of potential acquisitions and greenfield capital investments;
•Combining quantitative analysis into presentations for senior management with summaries of potential business opportunities and recommendations;
•Involved in business strategy development; and
•Supporting the pursuit of M&A opportunities.
The Analyst will work closely with the senior members of the Corporate Development team and other internal and external stakeholders including professionals in business development, sales, economic analysis, engineering, operations, regulatory and government affairs, sustainability, accounting, finance, and treasury to perform their role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibility Area 1: M&A and Development Projects (70%)
•Lead economic evaluation of M&A opportunities and development projects, and support activities related to strategic, commercial, and financial structuring for ATCO EnPower’s growth initiatives and project development efforts
•Support ATCO EnPower’s M&A pursuits through due diligence, deal structuring, research and analysis, and industry monitoring
•Support aspects of commercial due diligence on new growth opportunities
•Prepare presentation materials communicating findings and recommendations to senior management
Responsibility Area 2: Business Strategy Development (30%)
•Support the development of strategic plans and analyses; evaluating new business opportunities, assessing the competitive landscape, and market fundamentals which underpin growth initiatives
•Monitor and evaluate strategic impacts of ongoing policy, ESG, customer and competitor activities within ATCO EnPower’s focused markets and use competitive intelligence to advance actionable project execution strategies
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Demonstrated experience in economic modeling.
•Experience in the energy industry is preferred.
•Strategic thinking and business acumen with ability to analyze and interpret economic impact of business opportunities and provide recommendations how to best structure the transaction.
•Experience in commercial negotiations pertaining to project development, partnerships and external financing strongly preferred.
•Understanding of key energy transition drivers, including policy, climate and ESG factors.
•Ability to work collaboratively with a team of Senior Business Development professionals.
•Strong communication and presentation skills.
•Able to work independently with attention to detail and results focused.
•Advanced knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications.
•Ability to prioritize multiple projects under tight timelines, with flexibility to work long hours and weekends as required on occasion.
•Economic evaluation methodologies, models and associated analysis combined with acute ability to articulate valuation findings.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
•Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Commerce or Engineering.
•Completion of or working towards a financial designation (CFA, CBV, CPA, MBA, MA) preferred.
•Analyst: 1-3 years’ experience within an accounting, corporate finance, valuation, business development or closely related role.
•Senior Analyst: 5-7 years’ experience within an accounting, corporate finance, valuation, business development or closely related role.
•Demonstrated knowledge of energy sectors and key trends shaping those sectors, including ESG and climate policy trends.
•Experience or knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 Apps. (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, and Teams).
•Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
•Flexibility, initiative, resourcefulness, and the ability to work as an effective team member.
