We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager
with a strong background in construction/contracting to oversee our accounting operations. This role will be responsible for managing all financial processes, including AR, AP, job cost tracking, financial reporting, and compliance. The Accounting Manager will lead a team of 4-5 accounting professionals and work closely with senior leadership to ensure accurate financial management and reporting. The Accounting Manager will report to the CFO.
We are an extremely analytical and data driven company. The right candidate for this role is tech savvy with an aptitude for constant improvements in efficiency and automation. AI implementation will be a key factor in these improvements.
- Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including AP, AR, general ledger, payroll processing, and job costing
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and industry-specific financial requirements
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for leadership, managing the team to meet close deadlines
- Prepare Monthly Project Actual to Budget comparison for review with Project Managers to identify operational improvement opportunities
- Prepare weekly rolling cash forecast
- Maintain internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets
- Work with external auditors, tax advisors, and banks as needed
- Manage project accounting, including cost tracking, progress billings, revenue recognition, and WIP
- Ensure proper accounting for retention, lien waivers, and subcontractor payments.
- Oversee compliance with contracts, change orders, and construction-specific financial requirements.
- Support project managers with budget tracking and financial forecasting.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 4 accounting professionals.
- Streamline accounting processes and implement best practices for technology driven efficiency –
technology optimization, AI, and automation will be a major focus
- Collaborate with leadership on financial planning, cash flow management, and strategic decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
(CPA a plus)
- 8+ years of accounting experience in the construction/contracting service industry (general contracting, specialty contractor, or related industrial/commercial services with project accounting)- Leadership experience managing an accounting team
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Foundation, Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Tech savvy and technology-first approach to problem solving
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
