Job Description:
The Ordinance Enforcement Officer for the Village of Onsted is responsible for ensuring compliance with local ordinances, codes, and regulations to maintain public safety, health, and community standards. This position involves investigating complaints, conducting inspections, issuing warnings or citations, and working with residents to resolve violations in a fair and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce village ordinances related to zoning, property maintenance, noise, signage, junk vehicles, and other municipal codes.
- Investigate complaints from residents and conduct follow-up inspections.
- Issue verbal/written warnings, citations, or court summonses for violations when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of violations, inspections, and enforcement actions.
- Collaborate with village officials, law enforcement, and other agencies as needed.
- Educate residents and business owners on ordinance requirements to promote voluntary compliance.
- Attend village meetings and provide reports on enforcement activities.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of local ordinances and basic code enforcement principles.
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle confrontational situations professionally.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Previous experience in code enforcement or a related field is preferred but not required. Work Schedule:
Part-time, depending on village needs. May require occasional evening or weekend hours for complaint response.
