Job Description

Under general supervision of the WWTF Maintenance Manager, performs skilled work assignments required for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and replacing equipment and systems at Springdale’s Wastewater Treatment Facilities. This position supports our Mission of providing safe, high quality drinking water to our patrons and to responsibly treat and dispose of wastewater generated by patrons and protect public health.

The Maintenance Technician provides a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work on facility equipment and vehicles; performs housekeeping and cleaning of the workplace, equipment, and tools; and assists with other duties as assigned. This is a safety sensitive position.

This position may include work outside normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.

· Capable of using good judgment and making decisions in unusual and emergency situations as well as during routine operations

· Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, material and tools used in modern equipment repairs and maintenance

· Possess a good mechanical aptitude and fundamental knowledge of electrical principles

· Ability to detect, diagnose, and repair system and equipment malfunctions

· Operate trucks, tractors, forklifts, and other heavy equipment

· Ability to perform basic welding, metal cutting, and fabrication

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Safety Data Sheets, operation and maintenance instructions, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and technical specification manuals

· Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of workplace health and safety and demonstrate the ability to work safely and efficiently

· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, vendors, and the public

· Maintain a good attendance record

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are some of the general duties assigned to personnel in this position:

· Responsible for preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of all facilities process equipment. Report and/or correct any problems identified. Troubleshoot equipment when necessary

· Perform maintenance and repairs to Utility machinery and vehicles

· Keep a daily check on the mechanical disposition of the treatment facilities

· Responsible for the safekeeping of all tools, equipment parts, and maintenance supplies

· Assist with maintenance records of all process equipment and machinery

· Assist with the inventory of spare parts and supplies needed to keep all facilities equipment and vehicles in operating condition

· Perform daily housekeeping and cleaning of the maintenance facility to insure a safe and orderly working environment

· Respond to emergency calls after hours and on weekends and holidays

· Assist operators and other plant personnel when necessary

· Wear all appropriate PPE as required. Maintain safety policies and procedures including Lock out/Tag Out, ARC Flash, SCBA/RMP, confined space, etc.

· Perform other duties and assignments as directed by superiors

Education & Training

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional technical training in maintenance related fields such as SCADA, HVAC, welding, electrical, etc. is preferred, as is one or more years of experience in utilities plant equipment repair or industrial mechanical repair work. Incumbents must be able to acquire within one year of being eligible a Class I Wastewater Operator’s License issued by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality in order to remain employed in this position. Incumbents are expected to acquire with one year of being eligible to test, a Class III Wastewater Operator’s License issued by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, with a Class IV strongly recommended. Incumbents must be able to acquire a High-Pressure Boiler License and may also be required to obtain a CDL and/or forklift certification. The Utility’s compensation system is designed to motivate employees to contribute to the maximum of their ability by compensating based on their job performance and meeting licensing requirements. Inability to obtain proper licenses, within a year of being eligible to test, will result in a decrease of potential merit increases.

Must possess a valid Arkansas Driver’s License commensurate with work duties. In order to drive a Utility vehicle, this individual must remain insurable by the carrier providing automotive insurance coverage to the Springdale Water and Sewer Commission.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.05 - $36.08 per hour
