Position Summary
We are seeking a
Welding Engineer
to work out of our
Milwaukee Service Center.
The Welding Engineer will assist welding and brazing technicians, support third-party welding personnel, and collaborate with the design engineer and welding manager on projects. They will provide feedback to improve processes for steam turbine and generator equipment, research and acquire new equipment to enhance welding capabilities, and support other departments in bid reviews, quoting, design reviews, and customer interactions.
Essential Duties
•Support welding technicians in all aspects of welding.
•Track welder certifications and qualifications and maintain a continuity log for welders and the company.
•Review, test, and implement more efficient welding processes.
•Track and update the status of parts during the welding process.
•Collaborate with programmers, Manufacturing Engineers, and shop supervisors to define optimal processes, tooling, and fixtures for new parts.
•Develop, test, and qualify new welding and brazing processes for steam turbine and generator service projects.
•Interface between the shop and engineering department on technical welding issues for steam turbine and generator equipment.
•Lead facility, process, safety, and organizational improvements using 5S and Six Sigma methodologies.
•Manage the inventory of welding consumables such as gases, wire, and machine consumables.
•Assist project managers with bid specifications, quoting welding activities, and determining welding schedule durations.
•Support shop operators and Manufacturing Engineers in troubleshooting issues, tooling needs, and setup drawings for weld processes.
•Train new planners, engineers, and operators on current processes and methods and lead continuous improvement projects.
Education and Required Experience
•AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
•Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Welding engineering preferred
•5+ year experience in a manufacturing environment, including welding-related service work
•Proficient in utilizing manufacturing systems, preferably Oracle EBS system
•Proficient in operating a PC system in a network environment
•Experience working with welding vendors and equipment selection
•Experience in a service environment preferred
•Hands on experience in machine operation, machine setup and troubleshooting required
•AutoCAD or solid works experience preferred
•Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
•Strong communication skills to work with shop management and project managers.
•Team leader capable of guiding the team to common goals

Work Environment
The majority of this work takes place in an office and the work environment is that of a typical office environment in a manufacturing setting where noise levels are usually moderate. Frequently the employee will interact with personnel in the plant where he/she may be exposed to higher noise levels.
