We're currently seeking an experienced and certified Structural Steel Welder/Fitter to join our skilled team.
Job Description:
As a Structural Steel Welder/Fitter, you will be responsible for the layout, fitting, and welding of steel components in accordance with AWS D1.1 and D1.8 structural codes. This role requires precision, safety awareness, and a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication practices.
Responsibilities:
•Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols
•Fit and assemble structural steel components using appropriate tools and fixtures
•Perform full-penetration and fillet welds using FCAW, SMAW, and/or GMAW processes
•Work to AWS D1.1 and D1.8 code standards, including seismic welding requirements
•Use measuring tools such as squares, levels, tape measures, and angle finders
•Set up and operate welding equipment, grinders, torches, and cutting tools
•Inspect and ensure quality of welds using visual inspection and measuring tools
•Maintain safe work practices and adhere to company safety policies and procedures
•Assist with rigging and material handling as needed
•Work independently or as part of a team in both shop and field environments
Requirements:
•Minimum 3–5 years of structural steel welding and fitting experience
•Current AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification (required)
•AWS D1.8 Seismic Welding Certification (required or ability to obtain)
•Strong knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and structural steel behavior
•Ability to read and understand fabrication blueprints and welding symbols
•Proficiency with FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW processes
•Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and work in various physical positions (standing, climbing, crouching)
•Familiarity with welding safety protocols and PPE requirements
•Reliable transportation and punctuality
•High school diploma or GED (preferred); trade school or technical training is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience working in AISC-certified fabrication facilities
•OSHA 10/30 certification
•Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts
