JOB SUMMARY
The Fitter/Welder III is responsible for welding and fitting jobs while ensuring weldments are welded using the correct welding procedure and are built to print dimensionally in a timely manner. Based in Fort Worth, Texas this position will report to the assigned Manufacturing Lead/Crew Chief. The position will require the welder to work alongside other members of our assembly team to complete full trailer or skidded assemblies in their role.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES
•Perform complex welding tasks effectively using wire feed gun (flux core) and stick welding (7018) and possibly TIG welding processes.
•Responsible for layout, fit up and fabrication of complex, difficult structural forms.
•Accurately interpret complex engineering drawings.
•Fabricate complex jigs and fixtures as necessary to produce products that meet or exceed expected quality.
•Accurately interpret and follow proscribed weld procedures.
•Work accurately and efficiently with little supervision.
•Safely and accurately operate oxygen/acetylene cutting torch.
•Accurately interpret and follow information on work routers.
•Bring any technical problems encountered to the attention of the Manufacturing Lead/Crew Chief &/or Supervisor and assist in solving those problems.
•Responsible for using safe work practices.
•Work towards improving efficiency and achieving delivery goals.
•Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
•Maintain a clean & organized work area; utilize safe work habits.
•Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
•Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Minimum of 5 years’ experience welding in shop or field environment.
•Must have related experience in operation of welding equipment available in fabrication department.
•Experience using a cutting torch, and plasma torch.
•Experience with lay out and fit up of weldments and/or inspection of weldments.
•Experience mentoring others in performing lay out, fit up, welding and inspecting is a plus.
•Must be able to successfully pass 6G weld bend test in all FCAW, SMAW, GMAW and TIG.
•Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Word, Excel and other necessary applications.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
•Ability to pass a drug screen & background check.
•Must be familiar with SMAW and GMAW welding processes, competent reading, and interpretation of fabrication blueprints.
•Must be able to maintain proper organization on documentation and work areas, follow all company policies and safety measures.
•Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
•Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
•Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
•Able to work well in a team environment as well as self-directed when working independently.
•Ability to adapt and be cross-trained to learn all job duties.
•Ability to multitask in fast paced environment.
•Factory environment with large range in temperature changes.
•Ability to stand, walk, bend/stoop, push/pull and repetitive movement up to 12 hours daily.
