Water Resources Analyst - Modeling

The Position

The Research and Innovation Department (R&I) is currently seeking a Water Resources Analyst - Modeling. This position conducts hydraulic, hydrologic, and water quality modeling and analyses to support the management of Clean Water Services (CWS) surface and stormwater programs, research projects, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions

(The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. Clean Water Services may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.)

1. Manages, develops, adjusts, calibrates, and applies models of surface waters, watersheds, stream corridors, reservoirs, and infrastructure. Gathers and analyzes data, literature results, and engineering designs to build and calibrate models. Maintains, manages, and organizes data, modeling files, and documentation. Analyzes, interprets, and presents model results and data using statistical, graphical, and other analytical tools, including GIS, Excel, Python, and other tools. Prepares reports and presentations for internal and external audiences and stakeholders.

2. Manages modeling and data analysis projects. Develops project schedules and scopes, maintains internal and external communication with stakeholders, and participates in project meetings. Presents progress updates and findings from projects.

3. Supports stream restoration, dam removal projects, riparian shade planting, research projects, basin planning, greenhouse gas emissions, and regulatory compliance by creating and applying 1D- and 2D-HEC-RAS, HeatSource, CE-QUAL-W2, HSPF, SWAT, SWMM, and other modeling platforms. Utilizes both mechanistic and advanced statistical models to support projects.

4. Serves as liaison to consultants, contractors, and vendors and provides support as needed. Communicates with internal staff to improve operations and address specific challenges and needs of project teams.

5. Maintains current knowledge of the latest developments in modeling platforms and applications. Learns new modeling platforms and techniques as necessary.

6. Maintains a positive, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture to improve the understanding and recognition of diversity and fosters multidisciplinary and integrated team approaches.

7. Drives a CWS or personal vehicle for work-related purposes.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

The following are the minimum qualifications for this position.

3 years of experience in water resources engineering, environmental management, surface water modeling, stream restoration, water quality modeling, or related field;

College-level coursework in hydrology, numerical modeling, mathematics, statistics, chemical or environmental engineering, environmental science, water resources engineering, or a related field.

Master’s degree in civil, chemical, or environmental engineering, environmental science, numerical modeling, or a related field preferred.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Upon selection, candidates must possess and maintain a valid State issued driver’s license.

Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification is preferred.
