Under the direction of Plant Operations, the Water Plant Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of plant water processing systems. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing and maintaining water system tank levels, managing water inventory, and ensuring proper equipment alignment and routing based on seasonal and operational needs, and supporting wastewater stream processes and associated equipment. The technician plays a key role in ensuring water quality and system readiness throughout the year.
- Successful completion of a Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training program, or other equivalent Water Quality or Water Process training program.
- Obtain the State Water certification for the wastewater within the first 6 months and maintain certification.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Water Plant Technician or Water Plant Operator in an industrial setting.
- Must have a solid understanding of water quality and chemistry.
- Proficient in the use of laboratory instruments and techniques for water testing and analysis.
- Capable of learning and applying technical knowledge from manuals and documentation.
- Strong math and organizational skills, along with the ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to read and interpret technical procedures
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the laboratory equipment, instruments, and procedures required for testing, recording, and reporting data.
- Uses and care for PH meters, Colorimeters, Silica Analyzers, Burets (titration), Comparators, and other water quality analyzers as needed.
- Demonstrates proficiency in troubleshooting water processing equipment.
- Demonstrates proficiency in treating chemicals, blowdowns, and silica analyzers.
- Demonstrates proficiency in water sampling, including hardness, PH, Alkalinity, and Chlorine.
- Successfully completes all requirements of Training Programs.
- Performs necessary plant water treatment to ensure water chemistry is properly maintained.
- Operate and maintain water processing systems, including product waste processing, seasonal routing, and valve alignment.
- Monitor and adjust water quality parameters to meet operational standards.
- Perform handheld testing equipment calibration as needed.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and operate wastewater stream processes and equipment, including facilitating the removal of wastewater from the site in alignment with operational procedures and environmental regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with water treatment systems and equipment.
- Handle chemical treatment processes, including blowdowns and silica analysis.
- Maintain accurate records of all water sampling, testing, and operational activities.
- Track and manage inventory of materials and chemicals used in water treatment processes.
- Keep Plant Management informed of daily activities, system status, and any operational concerns.
- Promptly initiate equipment service requests to address issues that could impact the reliability, efficiency, or safety of water processing systems, helping to minimize downtime and control budget impacts.
- Complete all required training and certification programs.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Comply with all applicable Company policies, procedures, and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations, including employment, safety, and environmental standards and regulations.
