This is a skilled position maintaining and improving the utility’s water distribution and wastewater collections system. Operators are required to learn these systems operate all associated equipment, install and maintain water and sewer mains and appurtenances and assist in operations at the water and wastewater treatment plants. This position does require occasional standby work, emergency call in work and is expected to follow the residence requirement in CW&EP’s policy manual.
Periodic inspections and evaluation of the distribution/collection system to ensure proper operation
Inspection of contractors working in the distribution/collection system on maintenance projects
Installation of water and wastewater mains and appurtenances
Keep Supervisors informed of unusual conditions within the distribution/collection system
Able to operate all equipment used in maintenance
Completion of standard high or vocational school, supplemented by some experience in the operation of various job-related skills relating to the operation of the distribution system; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, ability, and skill.
Possession of a valid Missouri DNR Water “D”, Wastewater “D” and Distribution “DSIII” certification based on MDNR experience and operating permit requirements.
Missouri CDL Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsement required within 2 months.
Working knowledge of codes, regulations, procedures pertaining to the distribution system.
Ability to analyze, understand, and make determinations based on available data for best methods of repair within the distribution system.
Ability to train other employees in proper work procedures
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to issue clear written or oral instructions
Successfully perform the activities detailed in the attached entitled-Job Evaluation-Distributions/Collections Operator.
