Water Operator: Collections

Role Description:Full time role for a Collections Operator located in the City of Maricopa. The collections operator performs corrective and preventive maintenance on the collection system, performing a variety of skilled and unskilled manual duties in the maintenance and care of the collection system including repair and other modifications to regulators, outfalls and manhole structures that may be required to insure proper operation; cleaning and inspecting all sewer lines, interpreting and documenting the results of inspections; and to perform other related duties as assigned. Additionally, the operator may be subject to on-call work, emergency call back work and subject to shift work that may include nights and weekends.


Primary Duties and Qualifications:

Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of resources.

Delivers outstanding customer service. Establishes and maintains open communication with all internal and external customers; to include co-workers, contractors, residents, and other Utility departments. Informs immediate supervisor of daily operations, importantdevelopments, and work activities.
Inspect, diagnose, and locate difficulties in a variety of utility collection systems including dissembling and repairing pumps, valves, analyzers, feeders, gauges, and other related equipment.
Participate in the installation of utility collection systems.
Install pumps for use in lift stations; maintain and repair lift stations as necessary.
Perform routine tests; log results and maintain accurate records.
Lubricate parts and equipment; replace packing and bearings in pumps and motors; change motor oil.
Perform preventive maintenance functions on utility system equipment; identify equipment maintenance needs.
Take and compile reading data on lift stations; log and record data.
Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and diagrams for a variety of utility systems.Perform general utility maintenance activities, routine utility collection system repair, cleaning, and painting activities.
Maintain records on work, time, and material records.
Operation of Back-hoe, Dump Truck, hydro-vacuum truck, pumps, motors, sewer cleaning equipment and closed circuit pipeline inspection vehicle.
Use of leak detection and locating devices, surveying, cleaning and repairing sewer mains.
Respond to emergencies; participates in the on-call rotation.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Conducts daily inspections of collection facilities; logs daily records; interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts and instruments and adjusts; accordingly, assists in FOG Program as required and detects mechanical or process deficiencies and communicates findings to the supervisor.

Physical Demands: Sitting for extended periods; prolonged periods of time with repetitive motions of hands and fingers; close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus; climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain; use fingers to grasp and move small objects; ability to hear and recognize sounds; able to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet; able to utilize personal protective equipment as appropriate for safety. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty pounds.

Facial hair for operations personnel shall not be allowed at points where the SCBA face piece is designed to contact and seal with the face (i.e. chin and jawline). Sideburns and mustaches will be trimmed and well-groomed as determined by the Operators Manager.

Work is performed in an office and outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise from construction site heavy equipment and inclement weather.

Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to high school degree or equivalency.

Certifications and Other Requirements: Must possess Grade 1 or higher State of Arizona Wastewater Collections Operator Certification(treatment and/or distribution), or advance current Grade Level within 6 months.

Writing: Work requires the ability to write work orders, memos, letters, reports and keep accurate daily records at well sites, lift stations and treatment facilities.

Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a related field.

Time Management: Ability to complete repairs and tasks in a timely fashion.

Policy/Decision Making: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.

Technical Skills: Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.

General: Must have satisfactory outcome of drug testing, criminal record checks, motor vehicle record, and employment records prior to starting employment.

Licenses: Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license with no restrictions.

Location: Primary location will be the Global Water Center located in the City of Maricopa.
