The Septic System Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial septic systems. This position involves diagnosing system issues, pumping and cleaning tanks, and ensuring compliance with local and state environmental regulations.
- Inspect and repair septic tanks, drain fields and associated components.
- Perform routine pumping assistance, cleaning and maintenance of septic systems.
- Identify system failures, leaks, or blockages and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure all work complies with state and local health codes and environmental regulations.
- Conduct site assessments to determine system suitability and compliance.
- Follow safety procedures when handling wastewater and hazardous materials.
- Maintain accurate records of service calls, inspections, and repairs.
- Educate homeowners and business owners on proper septic system maintenance.
- Provide estimates for repairs, replacements, and system upgrades.
- Document and communicate findings to customers and management.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related fields is a plus.
- No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn equipment operation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic math and computer skills for data entry and reporting.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be willing to obtain a state wastewater operator certification within 1 year of employment.
- Obtain their Septic License through the state of WA within the first 6 months of employment.
- Obtain their Wastewater Operator License within the first year of employment.
- Work involves exposure to chemicals, odors, and outdoor elements.
- Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods.
- Work may include weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts as needed.
