Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Wastewater Electrical Technician II to join our team!

Work schedules are fixed and rotating shifts as needed to provide 24 hour coverage 7 days a week. The incumbent is responsible for performing scheduled electrical maintenance and minor repair of all electrical equipment necessary to maintain safe continuous operations of wastewater treatment plants and lift stations. Incumbent must have working knowledge of the wastewater process and proper handling of wastewater liquids and solids. The position requires skills and the ability to maintain and repair various equipment and parts including, but not limited to; switchgears, motor control centers, motors, motor starters, motorized valves, electrical components, programmable logic controllers, wiring, circuits, conduit (for voltages ranging from 120 to 4160, to 13.8 switchgear). Position coordinates with Operations to perform equipment maintenance and repair. The incumbent is responsible for mentoring and training personnel with less experience in areas of the incumbent’s expertise (i.e. Electrical Technician I). Position is responsible for communicating, requesting, and applying Lock-Out-Tag-Out to equipment for repair and/or maintenance.

This is a bargaining union position and a member of #725 AFSCME. Grade WW06. Hourly rate is $44.72. Work Schedule is Monday through Friday, 07:00 AM EST – 03:30 PM EST; could also be 6:00 AM EST to 2:30 PM EST; overtime opportunities.


Responsibilities:

Maintain and complete minor repairs on electrical switch gear, motor control centers, electrical equipment, devices, VFD’s, etc. throughout the wastewater facilities. Inspection of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and needs for adjustment or repair, as well as to ensure compliance with codes; Interpret and utilize schematic diagrams for trouble shooting and update diagrams as necessary for accuracy; test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system; Research equipment operation problems, identify cause of primary failure and implement corrective action under supervision.
Operate and maintain power delivery systems. Operate various types of power and hand tools including, but not limited to, pipe cutter/bender, saws, grinders, shears, and hydraulic or pneumatic equipment; operate all types of stationary and mobile equipment such as fork lifts, cranes, hoists and trucks in and around wastewater facilities.
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment; place conduit and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits; provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights, generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles; advise management immediately if continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Assist and perform rack out of high voltage equipment (480 to 4160) as needed to perform repairs. Assist isolating plant equipment for repairs as needed. Assist Operations in manually operating equipment as needed. Performs Lock-Out-Tag-Out per outlined procedures.
Keep work areas in good order and cleaning up after completion of work. Perform other housekeeping duties as assigned. Must know and comply with all company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work performance.
In addition to the primary duties listed above, the employee may be called upon to perform other work, as circumstances require.


Qualifications:

Must possess high school diploma or equivalent
5 to 7 years of experience as an electrician, electronic technician or trade school program
Up to two 2 years of education at a college, trade school, or equivalent may be substituted for experience
Must have the ability to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions
Must have thorough understanding of the National Electric Code
Documented Lock-Out-Tag-Out training
Documented Training in Arc Flash procedures
Must have general electrical and SCADA system knowledge
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Requires the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions
Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees
Must pass a heat stress test if requested
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Must be able to work overtime as circumstances require and share on-call responsibilities
Must maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License
Must have a safe driving record including no history of serious traffic violations, accidents, suspensions/revocations, or DUI/DWI convictions within the last three years.


Preferred Skills/Qualifications

2 years of education at a college or trade school
Certified Electrician
Class 1 Operators License
Class A and B CDL
