Job Title: Vice President of External Affairs and Economic Development
- Serve as a team member, providing strategic counsel and expertise to the CEO, by establishing governmental relations and economic development strategies.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with local agencies, developers, private consultants, citizen groups, community service organizations, and others to retain and recruit business and economic development.
- Serve as the primary interface for the cooperative with national, state and local elected officials, with emphasis placed on building and maintaining positive relationships with all local elected officials which represent the cooperative’s service territory and its surrounding areas.
- Responsible for reading, understanding and tracking all levels of established and proposed legislation which is both favorable and unfavorable to the strategic initiatives of the cooperative.
- Create and foster relationships with influential national site selection consultants, Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, local commercial realtors and developers, and the top employers in Baldwin and Monroe county.
- Serves as the cooperative’s primary contact for request for proposals for prospective new large loads brought to Baldwin EMC.
- Oversee the development of small business and entrepreneurial programs including potential funding sources that would augment the economic development efforts.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related economic development or business field and five years substantial experience in planning, economic and/or community development, business or related field OR equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- A graduate degree and CEcD designation is desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in governmental relations, economic development, community development and creating strategic partnerships with local, state and national stakeholders.
- Must possess a solid knowledge of the structure and relationship of all governmental and political agencies, economic development organizations and community development strategies.
- Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
- Strong organizational skills including planning, managing, and project management.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills with software applications (Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment and concerning regulatory or industry changes. Ability to manage demand, priority shifts, delays, deadlines, and/or unexpected events.
- Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, clearly, and respectfully – both orally and in written form.
- Knowledge of electric utility industry highly desirable.
- Work is performed both inside and outside in all weather conditions.
- Requires periods of reading, reaching, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing, and twisting.
- Travel within and outside of service territory, including some overnight.
- Subject to working extended hours, holidays, nights and weekends.
- Must maintain primary residence within the Cooperative’s service area.
