OWASA is seeking an individual to join our Water Distribution and Sewer Collection team as a Utility Technician III. This position will assist in leading the maintenance of the water, sewer, and reclaimed water lines within OWASA’s system.
A Utility Technician III position is assigned to one of the following crews: Sewer Maintenance and Easements; Valve Maintenance; Water Service and Maintenance; Customer Service and Hydrant; Sewer Preventative Maintenance; or Construction. This position is exposed to all types of weather and outdoor elements; responds to rotating on-call after hour emergencies as needed; uses a variety of hand tools and operates heavy equipment. Position leads the team members in the absence of the Crew Supervisor and is responsible for the safety of themselves and the public by maintaining work zone safety through traffic control and other safety devices to safely work within the road right of way and/or easements.
Position requires a high school diploma or GED, plus specialized schooling in water and sewer systems, with at least two years of experience. Valid North Carolina driver’s license required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must have the ability to complete employer paid certification in Sewer Collection System Grade II or Water Distribution System Grade B. Physical requirements include exerting up to 100 pounds, walking/standing to a significant degree, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and responding to rotating after-hour situations as necessary. Experience using Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of Cityworks work order management system is preferred.
