Utility Foreman

Overview

Benchmark Utility Services is seekinga skilled and motivated Utility Foreman to lead field crews in underground utility construction projects. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, hands-on experience, and a commitment to safety and quality. You’ll oversee the installation of water, sewer, and storm systems, ensuring projects are completed on time and within spec.

Responsibilities

- Supervise and coordinate field crews including pipe-layers, operators, and laborers.

- Operate and maintain construction equipment and tools safely and effectively.

- Interpret construction plans and specifications; ensure work aligns with project goals.

- Organize daily activities, maintain job site safety, and manage equipment and materials.

- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and project plans.

- Conduct quality control inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations (OSHA).

- Collaborate with team members to supervise construction activities.

- Monitor workmanship and adherence to standards for water mains, sewer lines, storm drains, and other utilities.

- Assist in budgeting and estimating project costs.

- Liaise with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and utility companies to resolve issues and prevent delaysMaintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

- Assist with scheduling and reporting to superintendents.

Experience

- 3+ years of experience in underground utility or civil construction

- Proven leadership and crew management skills

- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings

- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety practices

- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities

- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred

- Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, First Aid, or Competent Person a plus
