As a key member of Barrick’s North America Exploration and North American regional leadership team, you will lead the implementation of Barrick’s exploration strategy across the region, driving high-value gold and copper discoveries. The US Exploration Manager is responsible for developing and leading a technically skilled geoscience team and will plan and execute the greenfield exploration programs.
Responsibilities
- Ensures a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and the public demonstrating and instilling a culture of safety and enforcing compliance with all regulatory and industry safety standards.
- Develops and leads a technically skilled geoscience team to effectively execute Barrick’s exploration strategy.
- Conducts extensive field reviews of programs, projects, and properties demonstrating safety leadership and support to the team.
- Leads the planning and execution of greenfield exploration programs aligned with company strategy, overseeing budgets, timelines, and project delivery.
- Leads regional reviews of third-party opportunities and plays a key role in negotiating and managing commercial exploration agreements.
- Ensures compliance with all statutory and reporting requirements across the U.S.
- Fosters collaborative relationships across company functions—including Community Relations, HR, Accounting, Legal, Land, Business Development, and IT—to support regional exploration objectives.
- Builds and fosters a network of industry contacts—including prospectors, junior and major companies, research groups, and universities—to support new ore deposit discoveries.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or a closely related field required
- Master’s Degree in Geology or Economic Geology preferred
- Twenty (20) + years of progressive mining and gold/copper exploration experience with a strong emphasis on exploration, mineral economics, and leadership.- A strong foundation of fundamentals in geology, exploration procedures, business acumen, and commercial skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create strategic plans and execute to deliver significant results with a focus on being agile and not process-driven.
- In-depth technical experience of a variety of priority commodities/deposit styles, including Carlin-type, porphyry copper, and epithermal systems across a range of geologic and political jurisdictions. Working knowledge of the geology and metallogeny of the US required.
- Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders—including technical teams, executive leadership, partners, and regulators—with ability to deliver clear, concise insights and address complex geological challenges directly and decisively.
- Sharp analytical skills to define KPIs, interpret regional performance data, and deliver insights that drive strategic KPIs.
- Ability to translate complex geological data into clear, business-focused insights for diverse regional and cross-functional audiences.
- Track record of exploration success in execution and delivery of strategy and projects leading to discovery.
