New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule: 7 on 7 off, rotating days and nights

Position Reports To: Underground Shift Supervisor

Position Overview:

New Afton is looking for highly motivated, positive team players who are dedicated to safety, equipment care and the environment to join our Underground operations team.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure safe operation in maintaining underground roadways;

- Operate grader, packer, and/or other underground equipment as required for road maintenance;

- Share knowledge and mentor other team members;

- Complete other road maintenance labour tasks as required.

Qualifications

- Possess Grade 12 diploma or equivalent;

- Has considerable mechanical and cognitive aptitude and experience running heavy equipment;

- Minimum 4000 hours (2 years full time) experience operating graders in industry or civil applications and a high degree of knowledge and familiarity with road maintenance processes;

- Demonstrated skill and experience in spreading and leveling material, road construction and cutting, setting grade and establishing ditch lines;

- Experience as a leader is highly desirable;

- Ability to assess roadways and self-direct work as required;

- Ability to be flexible in job tasks and responsibilities so that work is balanced between team members;

- Demonstrated ability to share knowledge gained with others and the ability to solve problems.

- Operating Grader underground will be considered an asset.

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen

- Provide proof of a minimum valid Class 7N driver’s license

- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada

- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $80,000 to $95,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
