Required experiences for Nuclear Under Vessel Technician:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Candidate must be mechanically inclined.
- Clean background with no outstanding or pending legal charges.
- Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test at time of hire and at random.
- Valid Driver’s License with no pending charges.
- Non-US Citizen must hold current work visa or green card.
- The individual must have knowledge of operating a computer.
Position requires 100% travel. Travel to perform maintenance at nuclear power plants from February through May and then again from September to November.
Essential functions for Nuclear Under Vessel Technician:
Work will occur in a nuclear power plant, which is a radioactively controlled environment, primarily in the US, with some customers requiring international travel.
The CRD Technician works under the CRD Lead Technician, performing or supporting exchange activities on Control Rod Drive units as well as other work in the under-vessel area. The work is typically performed in a very congested and high radiation area, requiring the individual to wear radiation and environmental protection equipment (determined and supplied by site). Most work is performed above the shoulders.
- Capable of successfully working in a team environment
- Possess sufficient skill and work experience to understand and perform the work in accordance with written procedures and work instruction.
- Conduct preparations for CRD exchange.
- Conduct support activities for handling CRDs.
- Perform required training and proficiency demonstrations as required.
- Provide input on work performed.
- Assure critical aspects of the work are fully met.
- Rig and move CRDs.
- Support CRD exchange, including equipment operation.
- Provide recommendations for improvements and problem resolution.
- Ensure Nuclear Safety is a priority during all aspects of the job.
- Perform safety observations at each work location.
Physical demands for Nuclear Under Vessel Technician:
- Must be able to lift 50lbs overhead.
- Must be able to push, pull, lift, climb, and extend as required for the job.
- Must be able to work in high heat environments.
- Able to stand, bend & kneel for extended periods of time.
- Able to work in a confined space/ highly congested work area.
- Able to wear full body protective clothing, to include face shield.
- Able to work in radiation control areas.
Other requirements for Nuclear Under Vessel Technician:
- Must be able to pass required physical exam & training for use of respirator.
- Complete Sonic’s Environmental Health and Safety training modules
- Successful completion of skill specific training (80% or higher)
- Position is located on customer sites.
