Role
The Training Superintendent is a key member of the Thacker Pass Project (TPP) Operations group with the primary responsibility of developing, implementing, and maintaining the training programs at Thacker Pass in a safe, consistent and effective manner. This role will provide leadership and guidance to all departments and contractors so that programs provide trained and qualified staff with the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to properly perform work safely.
The successful candidate will have experience with Operations and Business Readiness programs of greenfield or brownfield start-ups of new industrial facilities utilizing mineral or chemical processes and their maintenance programs. The candidate will be familiar with developing and utilizing a learning management system (LMS) to produce a Systematic Approach to Training (SAT)
The position will report to the Site Operations Director and will be based out of the Winnemucca, NV, business office during construction and transition to the Thacker Pass Project during commissioning and throughout production. Travel to LAC offices and business units, various engineering groups, and vendor offices will be required.
Responsibilities
•Shares a trusting relationship with all workgroups and promotes a culture that achieves our Purpose, Vision, and Values
•Collaborates with all department managers and HR to identify training needs and develop effective training management programs for TPP employees, vendors, and contractors
•Ensure TPP employees, contractors, and vendors have the proper training to perform their jobs while following applicable laws and regulations
•Responsible for overseeing and managing the learning management system (LMS) to track training progress and maintain training content.
•Serves as the requirements area owner for training
•Reports on effectiveness, delinquencies, and deficiencies in training programs to managers
•Monitors and evaluates training program effectiveness in accordance with MSHA, OSHA, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
•Leads the training organization and supervises training personnel
•Provides training direction and support to organizations to assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of training using the five-step System Approach to Training (SAT) process
•Provides input to contracted organizations on their training requirements
•Develops and updates training requirement documents and related materials based on feedback from evaluations, changes in position responsibilities, changes in procedures, process design changes, operating experiences, and lessons learned
•Develops, monitors, and evaluates training program effectiveness by performing periodic assessments
•Qualifies instructors and maintains an indirect staff of qualified instructors
•Develops, maintains, and coordinates site training schedules, records and budgets
•Provides guidance to TPP personnel on accessing information in the training database
•Other duties as assigned
Requirements
•Minimum 10 years’ experience at a supervisor level or higher in the mining or chemical industries
•Proven track record of adopting, implementing, and sustaining training programs
•Effective at leading change management initiatives
•Strong team building, decision-making, and people management skills
•Current knowledge of business and management principles and systems, such as budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources
•Strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and human performance
•Effective verbal and written skills with the ability to motivate teams toward common goals
•Ability to multi-task and coordinate several projects in parallel while prioritizing and pursuing critical-path tasks on an accelerating schedule
•Ability to work well with others, both internally and externally, in an effective manner
•Possess strong intellectual, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
