Job purpose
This position assists with the efficient and safe movement of steel materials, products, and equipment, ensuring timely deliveries and adhering to company and industry regulations and safety protocols. This includes Canada and the United States and material out of SSAB Alabama to various countries around the world.
Duties and responsibilities
•Assist with planning, organizing, and coordinating transportation activities, including scheduling shipments, loading/unloading materials, and ensuring proper documentation.
•Maintain accurate records of shipments, including manifests, bills of lading, and other relevant documents.
•Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures related to transportation, handling, and storage of steel materials.
•Identify and resolve transportation-related issues, such as delays, damages, or discrepancies.
•Assist with inventory control, ensuring accurate tracking of steel materials and products in transit.
•Assist with route planning and optimization to minimize transportation costs and maximize efficiency.
•Enter transportation data into computer systems and generate reports as needed.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
•High School Diploma or equivalent
•2 - 4+ years of experience performing logistics, warehousing, transportation, supply chain, procurement or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
•Strong working knowledge and understanding of domestic and international shipments across all modes of transport
•Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized
•Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
•Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
•Ability to work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
•Strong attention to details, analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
•Current/active driver’s license
Preferred Education & Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
•5+ years of progressively responsible experience in the field of supply chain logistics, procurement and management of transportation services in a manufacturing environment
•Experience in the steel, manufacturing or services industries
Working conditions
Travel 10% of time for meetings at other SSAB locations, trainings, seminars & conferences as needed
