Description:
Overview: The Track Hoe & Loader Operator plays a critical role in our rock crushing and mining operations, responsible for the safe and efficient excavation, loading, and material handling of aggregates, overburden, and other materials. This position requires proficiency in operating both track hoe excavators and wheel loaders, ensuring optimal feed to the crushing plant, maintaining stockpiles, and supporting overall site operations in compliance with all safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Track Hoe (Excavator) Operations:
•Crusher Feeding: Precisely excavate and load various sizes of raw rock material into the primary crusher hopper, ensuring a consistent and optimal feed rate to maximize plant throughput and prevent blockages.
•Material Excavation: Dig, excavate, and move earthen materials, rock, and overburden from designated areas, adhering to site plans and grade specifications.
•High Wall Management: Assist in maintaining safe and stable high walls in excavation pits, following engineered designs and MSHA guidelines.
•Demolition/Breaker Work: Operate hydraulic hammer attachments as required for breaking oversized rock or concrete.
Wheel Loader Operations:
•Material Loading: Efficiently load various types and sizes of crushed aggregate products onto haul trucks, ensuring proper weight distribution and maximizing load capacity.
•Stockpile Management: Build, maintain, and reclaim organized and stable stockpiles of raw materials, processed aggregates, and other site materials.
•Crusher Feed Assistance: Supplement track hoe feeding or provide primary feed to crushers as needed, ensuring continuous plant operation.
•Material Transportation: Transport materials across the site, including aggregates, dirt, and other bulk items.
Shared / General Operator Duties:
•Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, and site-specific safety plans. Actively participate in safety meetings and hazard recognition.
•Pre-Operational Checks: Conduct thorough daily pre-operational inspections of assigned equipment (track hoe and loader), including fluid levels, lights, tires/tracks, hydraulics, and safety devices (e.g., backup alarms, fire extinguishers). Document findings and report any defects immediately.
•Routine Maintenance: Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as greasing, cleaning, and minor adjustments.
•Site Organization & Cleanliness: Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work area, including around the crushing plant and stockpiles.
•Communication: Maintain effective radio communication with supervisors, ground personnel, truck drivers, and other operators to coordinate movements and ensure a safe and efficient workflow.
•Quality Control Support: Assist in monitoring material quality and escalate any discrepancies or issues.
•Environmental Stewardship: Implement practices that minimize environmental impact, including dust control (e.g., operating water truck, as needed) and proper waste disposal.
•Problem Solving: Identify and report equipment malfunctions, operational bottlenecks, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
•Proven experience (typically 2+ years) operating heavy equipment, with demonstrated proficiency in both hydraulic excavators (track hoes) and wheel loaders in a mining, quarry, or heavy construction environment.
•Strong understanding of rock crushing plant operations and the flow of materials.
•Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and depth perception.
•Ability to read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and production schedules.
•Strong commitment to safety and a thorough understanding of MSHA regulations.
•Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly.
•Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including sitting for long periods, climbing on/off equipment, and working in various weather conditions (dust, heat, cold).
•Valid driver's license required.
•MSHA certification preferred or ability to obtain upon hire.
Requirements:
A motivated and skilled Heavy Equipment Operator for surface mining operations. This role requires proficiency in operating various types of heavy mining equipment, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn and contribute to plant maintenance.
