The O&M Technician III - Hydro performs numerous operations and maintenance tasks in the safe and efficient operation of the hydroelectric project(s). Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and dam safety equipment and maintaining grounds and facilities required for the safe operation of the hydroelectric project(s).
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
- Observe, record, and evaluate system conditions, maintain, and review operational and maintenance reporting logs and keep management fully informed of unusual conditions.
- Understanding of predictive & preventive maintenance processes.
- Installs, adjusts, inspects, services, and repairs a variety of mechanical, electrical, and controls equipment and parts of electrical machinery utilized in a hydroelectric facility. Overhauls and adjusts hydroelectric units, pumps, valves, pneumatic controls, and auxiliary equipment. Troubleshoots and maintains plant control systems.
- Maintains and inspects grounds and facilities to FERC standards, to include vegetation and debris management.
- Maintains, tests, and troubleshoots facility emergency systems.
- Tests and calibrates to established standards, equipment such as pressure and temperature transmitters, valve positioners, pneumatic controllers, electronic controllers, pressure and temperature switches and other process control equipment
- Monitors operations by observing plant equipment, indicating instruments, annunciators, computers, and communications equipment
- Read P&ID’s, schematics and ladder logic and use facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment.
- Fully support the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) by displaying a proficiency in using the system and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy.
- Read, understand, and comply with all regulatory procedures and facility safety. Take on specific tasks/responsibilities assigned in these areas.
- Work shift hours, overtime, or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation and emergency operation of the facilities. Be available for emergency callouts as needed.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records
- Fully support and actively participate in GRDA Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
- Assists in the training and mentoring of less experienced team members.
- Creates, organizes, and maintains records.

- Strong technical and mechanical skills.
- Good working knowledge of power plant industry.
- Deep understanding of safety regulations and culture
- Must have adequate oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail. Manual dexterity is required for the operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree in a technical field is desirable.
- Minimum four (4) years of hydroelectric plant or equivalent large industrial operational experience.
- Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, arc flash rated clothing etc.).
- Work outside in all types of weather conditions.
- May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to stand and walk on cement floors, uneven ground, slippery surfaces, and open grating.
- Must be able to climb extending ladders, restricted overhead clearance ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and various other elevated equipment.
- Must be able to carry and operate a fire extinguisher, escape an emergency by running.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the floor level, and push/pull heavy objects while standing, crouching, and in bent posture.
- Must be able to work extended hours and be available for emergency callouts, as necessary.
- Position is located at the Salina Pumped Storage Project in Salina, OK
