The Grand River Energy Center power plant is seeking a highly driven individual to support the operations team. This position is an entry level position that will perform semi-skilled manual work while working under the supervision of a high performing multi-unit power generation team.
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
- Promotes continual improvement, working to identify opportunities to improve safety and equipment reliability.
- Operates scrubbers, steam turbines, generators, plant auxiliary equipment and systems during normal and emergency operations.
- Monitor and inspect all plant equipment for normal operation.
- Maintain, compile and update plant operating logs and reports; perform and record mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities
- Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures.
- Provide feedback/input on equipment conditions, potential failure risks, corrections, and additions to job plans
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly testing as required to maintain compliance with governing agencies.
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment including, forklifts, boom lifts, etc.
- Train for and carry out assignments in firefighting (incipient stage), first aid and other emergency response programs as required
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Preference given to candidates having completed a two-year course of study in the technical field to which assigned at a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, or accredited college; or having a minimum of two (2) years of operations experience at a generation or large industrial facility.
- Additional preference given for training and direct experience with advanced class combustion turbines.
Must obtain OSHA 30 certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
- Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, respirators, arc flash rated clothing etc.).
- Work outside in all types of weather conditions.
- May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.
- Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail. Manual dexterity is required for operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.
- Must be able to stand and walk on cement floors, uneven ground, slippery surfaces, and open grating.
- Must be able to climb extending ladders, restricted overhead clearance ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and various other elevated equipment.
- Must be able to carry and operate a fire extinguisher, escape an emergency by running.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the floor level, and push/pull heavy objects while standing, crouching, and in bent posture.
- Must be able to work 12 hour rotating night/day shifts and extended hours when necessary and be available for emergency callouts as necessary.
