Job Summary/Purpose
Delta Utilities is seeking a Gas Legacy Meter Reader. This position will use AMR (Automated Meter Reading) & IMU (Interface Management Unit) to read industrial, commercial and residential meters by assigned routes and/or appointment to ensure timely and accurate monthly measurement of energy consumption. Ability to identify and work non-registering equipment including programming and installing IMU devices.
Accountabilities And Essential Functions•Manual Meter Reading: Travel to residential, commercial, and industrial locations to manually read gas meters. Accurately record usage data using handheld devices or paper logs.
•Meter Identification & Verification: Confirm meter ID numbers and document readings to ensure accurate and timely billing.
•Route Planning & Optimization: Plot daily routes using maps and procedures. Contribute to continuous improvement of route structures and update location data to support efficiency and safety.
•Meter Inspection & Maintenance: Inspect meters for tampering, leaks, or damage. Perform minor maintenance such as clearing obstructions around meters and assisting in turning the gas service off as directed (e.g. for move-out’s or non-payments)
•Customer Interaction: Communicate with customers to gain access to meters and provide basic information about the meter reading process. Respond to inquiries and escalating issues as needed.
•Data Reporting: Submit daily logs of readings, locations, and incidents. Ensure accurate data entry into billing systems.
•Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, use required PPE, and report hazards such as gas leaks, theft, or equipment malfunctions.
•Technical Support: Identify non-registering IMUs and investigate IMU-related work orders. Use tools and equipment to reprogram or install IMU devices.
•Manual Re-Reads: Perform manual reads of gauges and large meters as required, including re-read orders.
•Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with customer relations to resolve account and audit requests. Participate in training and cross-training to enhance job knowledge.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
•Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages), punctuation, grammar and spelling.
Minimum Experience Required Of The Position
•Requires a minimum of zero (0) years of current work experience in meter reading operations. Having 2+ years of meter reading experience is preferred. If 0-2 years of experience in meter reading, mechanical aptitude or experience using small tools (e.g., for basic repairs, assembly, or troubleshooting technical issues) is essential.
•Knowledgeable with Itron Meter Reading Equipment is a plus.

•Able to use mainframe software programs such as Oracle Field Services.
•Able to demonstrate ability to operate a personal computer, including working knowledge of word processing software.
•Able to understand and evaluate software, hardware and other technology.
•Able to use the proper tools for any given job.
•Able to demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communication skills.
•Able to communicate clearly and effectively with customers on the routes in a courteous and professional manner.
•Able to meet all physical requirements, competency-based assessments, pre-employment background checks, pre-employment drug screen and other selection criteria determined by the company.
Any Certificates, Licenses, Etc. Required For The Position
•Must possess a valid, non-expired Driver's License.
•Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class D Driver’s License when needed.
Physical Requirements
•Able to work inside a vehicle and/or outside for most of the workday.
•Able to sit for extended periods of time.
•Able to view a personal computer or laptop screen for extended periods of time.
•Able to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
•Able to adapt easily to changing work schedules.
•Able to work overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
•Able to work with moderate daily pressure to meet deadlines.
•Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
•When hired, this job title will be Technician, Meter Reading.

•Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions.
•Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
•Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
•Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
•May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
