Actalent Engineering is seeking qualified candidates for a Technical Writer position with a government contractor that is located in York, PA. This person will be responsible for creating and revising complex technical documentation to support marketing, operations, repair and maintenance of company products.
Below is a summary of responsibilities for this position:
- Ensure documentation conforms to company and government standards and specifications
- Ensure documentation adheres to proper language usage principles
- Utilizes state-of-the-art publishing software to produce the following: product descriptions, detailed functional descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation guides, maintenance and repair procedures, illustrated parts breakdown (IPB)
- Ensures compliance with the following: customer requirements, government specifications, engineering standards, language usage principles
Below is a summary of requirements for qualified candidates:
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience plus 5 additional years of relevant experience
- Defense industry experience
- XML Authoring Tools : Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen
- Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel PowerPoint (Access is a plus)
- Adobe Acrobat Professional: Proficient in illustration markups or similar PDF markup tools
- Technical Writing Experience: Mechanical/Electrical/Operator documentation, preferably in the defense industry
- Validation/Verification Experience: On-vehicle experience is a plus
- Content Management System (CMS): Experience is a plus
- Customer Interaction: Strong customer service skills; some roles involve direct customer interface
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work with diverse teams across multiple locations
- IETM Knowledge: Familiarity with Interactive Electronic Technical Manual functionality, development processes, and markup languages
- Standards Awareness: Familiarity with relevant military and commercial standards
- Preferred working knowledge of the following: Hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations, Publication/page production software, IETM functionality and development processes
- Ability to : Understand complex engineering designs, Analyze and interpret engineering drawings and terminology, Translate technical content into accessible language for non-engineers, Create and revise complex documentation, Answer customer questions and concerns, Engage in cross-functional problem-solving, Guide team members and ensure timely, budget-conscious documentation delivery
- Strong attention to detail and command of the English language
