The Role
The purpose of this role is to provide technical leadership and be responsible for all technical services functions including exploration, geology, engineering, surveying, and all aspects of the Technical Services team at Nyrstar East TN Mines.
Key Accountabilities
- Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times
- Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals in support of the department, site and company standards
- Demonstrates leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations, and ensuring that the Mobile Maintenance team report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives
- Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
- Lead the coordination of technical services support to the Operational departments across Nyrstar Tennessee Mines, by the timely provision of information necessary for detailed mine planning, scheduling and ore characterization
- Develop and manage a standardized technical service practice across the business
- Identify critical aspects of data interpretation and identify valid conclusions
- Actively manage the discovery of new resources as outlined in the business strategy and project pipeline
- Manage expenditure to within budget levels
- Manage all exploration activities for mineral resources on the mining and exploration leases under the control of Nyrstar Tennessee Mines, as targeted in the strategic plan
- Ensure that exploration activities comply with Nyrstar and statutory expectations
- Engage and empower others to deliver and share improvement and excellence to ensure that better efficiencies are determined.
- Manage Mine Engineering group to ensure proper planning and specialized
- Lead all resource update and sign-off as the in-house competent person on all resource publishing.
- Provide effective leadership, performance management, career development and succession planning of team personnel
- Lead by example with supportive behaviors promoting a ‘team’ and cooperative approach, sharing resources, knowledge and ideas with other teams
- Appropriately prioritize activity to continuously achieve targets
- Support for and adherence to the Nyrstar Values and Behavior expectations
- Qualifications in Mine Engineering, Geology, or related degree
- >8 years varied production and exploration experience including some base metal experience
- Minimum 5 years of underground mining experience
- Experience in working to budgets and capital cost expectations
- Experience in geostatistical software packages
- Exposure to a broad range of drilling techniques
- Exposure and experience in geostatistical resource estimation techniques and block modelling and QAQC
- Advance knowledge and Experience in 3-D mining software programs
- Advanced in mapping and interpretation with the ability to identify and focus on important aspects of technical services and underground mining practices
- Good practical understanding of underground mining methods
