Are you an electrical engineer with a knack for power system protection and control? Are you living or dreaming of living in beautiful Colorado? Tri State is looking for an experienced System Protection Engineer to join our team. This candidate will have excellent communication skills, and be willing to work around high voltage, and outside at times.
What you will do:
•Review and maintain protection system equipment, and coordinate at substations to develop protection system settings.
•Evaluate system interruptions, and investigate outages; collect data, assist with system restoration after disturbances, write reports.
•Lead protection system coordination studies regularly after outages, and conduct and assist with studies to include electromagnetic transient, motor starting, arc flash, and power quality.
•Support and train engineers in system protection.
•Provide field engineering support to Tri State personnel and utilities, for the testing and energization of new and modified substations.
•Coordinate for current and future fault studies; monitoring the use of fault recorders, locators, and sequence of event recorders.
•Ensure compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) standards and document area-wide compliance.
Who you are:
You maintain good working relationships, can provide support to other engineers. You are comfortable working around high voltage and outside in any condition.
•Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related area, power option is a bonus!
•Working knowledge of an interconnected power system, and relays, testing equipment, computer programs, terminals, and fault recorders.
•5+ years of experience working in power system transmission protection.
•Willingness to travel 15% - 25% to repair substations and work in an on-call environment.
