Canadian Niagara Power Inc. (CNP), located in beautiful Fort Erie, is looking for a highly knowledgeable, safety-focused problem-solver, with a positive attitude to join our team. Our System Control Operator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of FortisOntario generation, transmission, and distribution power systems to provide safe and reliable service to our customers. This role reports into our Technical Services Supervisor, along with Meter persons, Operations Technicians, and a Substation Electrician.
What this role does:
•Maintain daily logs and records of outage data, and issue reports as required.
•Coordinate work projects and dispatch Line crews as required.
•Prepare equipment or system outages and their respective work protection documents for all FortisOntario locations utilizing the E&USA Utility Work Protection Code.
•Issue work permits, hold-offs, and station guarantees.
•Prepare switching orders and direct the necessary switching to isolate, lock and tag out electrical and hydraulic equipment.
•Operate the SCADA system for all FortisOntario generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
•Analyze system loading using SCADA or other data; produce graphs and reports as required.
•Modify maps and records to reflect system changes as they occur to maintain accuracy.
•Communicate effectively with customers and the public, line crews and other employees, as well as other utilities and authoritative bodies.
•Provide training to junior team members as required to maintain a safe and skilled crew.
•Ensure all work assigned is performed efficiently, while demonstrating a personal commitment to the safety of co-workers, the public, oneself, and the environment.
•Perform regular on-call duties as required, as well as other duties as reasonably assigned.
What makes you a successful candidate?
•Graduate of recognized 3-year Electrical Engineering Technologist program.
•Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist in the Province of Ontario.
•Completion of the Electrical Operator Training program through MEARIE required with an Electrical Operator Journeyperson certificate.
•Must be able to read electrical and mechanical diagrams and have training and knowledge on emergency response procedures.
•Must possess sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and solid understanding and experience covering all phases of power system operation.
•Detailed knowledge and adequate experience on the operations and procedures of hydraulic and electrical apparatus is required.
•A complete understanding of the E&USA Utility Work Protection Code is required, with formal certification and qualification.
•Good communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, customers, and industry partners.
•Physically able to perform the essential duties.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office.
•Ability to perform work in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and other requirements to which the Company subscribes.
•Unrelenting commitment and passion to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement.
•Valid Class G drivers’ license with full vaccination status.
•Must be and remain fully vaccinated.
